Walking by lantern down an unfamiliar path, I am only able to see the few feet in front of me. I watch my step carefully to make sure I don’t stumble on a rock or root pertruding from the ground. I glance up for a moment, peering into the darkness of the night, seeing only the dark shadows and the bright moon above me. Instead of fretting over the fact that I cannot see everything that is to come off in the distance, I realize that I can barely handle what is at my feet. So I find contentment.
This is obviously a symbol for our spiritual walk. The darkness symbolizes sin and the temptations we face in our daily lives. God only lights up what we can handle.
I Corinthians 10:13
And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
Questions to ask yourself:
Did you put oil in your lamp?
Do you have something to light the lamp with?
Do you have enough oil to last?
1 John 1:6-7
We must walk in the light
‘This also means that we must refrain from walking where there is no light! What if we walk in the dark, someplace other than where the light is shining?
‘God’s word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path. To walk in the light, we must know the Scriptures, we must understand the word, and we must do the will of God. We must walk in the light and refrain from walking where there is no light.’
