We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.
23-24Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good—crucified.
25-26Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.

Too often do we judge one another in the wrong way. I recently read an article that talked about how the common phrase, ‘Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged‘, has been misquoted. The article gave multiple Bible verses and talked about how God tells us to judge, but do it acording to His Word, the Word of God.

They were apprenticing their fathers because they were not good enough to further their theological study and become a Rabbi.  JESUS REACHES OUT TO THE ‘NOT-GOOD-ENOUGHS’. Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

I have an update for High School relationships here when I get around to writing it. This passage is about opening up to one another and finding support and accountability from our peers. It makes life so much easier when we have that person we can tell anything to!

1 Peter 1:14-16 NIV:

Reinforcing to leave behind the man you once were, and follow Christ in his ways. Which also leads to -

While sitting in Genesis, my churches youth group, today, I was disappointed in the new material our new leaders are starting to go over. The material consists of booklets for each student and basically the books give you a verse, you look it up, summarize it’s “claim”, and then tell how this will have a neg./pos. effect when you read the Bible. I thought the way the book covers the material is rather shallow. It does NOT require the student to “Go Deep” into the word, think about how the verse applies to your life, or how this passage will help the student grow in Christ. (more…)

I was in Family Christian Book Store a while ago looking at the “Christian themed” shirts they had and I came upon this shirt…

There is absolutely nothing easy about Jesus! It is a struggle to follow Christ the way He wants us to. Following Christ is not easy, and I think this shirt is sending the wrong message to non-believers.

‘When you are full,
not even the honey tastes good,
but when you are hungry,
even something bitter is sweet.’ - Proverbs 27:7 NCV

When we are “high on life”, our heads are too high to even accept honey as sweet. But once we become low and desperate, something such as the bitter black coffee(a bad example) seems sweet to the soul.

Are we supposed to be “full” or are we supposed to find satisfaction in something not so sweet, but bitter? What happens when the sweet isn’t sweet anymore, it doesn’t meet the standards of “sweetness”? Which is supposed to taste good, sweet or the bitter that seems sweet?
