1The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

2When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

3Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

4One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

5For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

6And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

7Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.

8When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.

9Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

10When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

11Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.

12Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.

13I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

14Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

My soul finds rest in God alone;
my salvation comes from him.

2 He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

3 How long will you assault a man?
Would all of you throw him down—
this leaning wall, this tottering fence?

4 They fully intend to topple him
from his lofty place;
they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
but in their hearts they curse.
Selah

5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
my hope comes from him.

6 He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

7 My salvation and my honor depend on God [a] ;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.

8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.
Selah

9 Lowborn men are but a breath,
the highborn are but a lie;
if weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
together they are only a breath.

10 Do not trust in extortion
or take pride in stolen goods;
though your riches increase,
do not set your heart on them.

11 One thing God has spoken,
two things have I heard:
that you, O God, are strong,

12 and that you, O Lord, are loving.
Surely you will reward each person
according to what he has done.

Galatians 5:19-26

19-21It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on.
This isn’t the first time I have warned you, you know. If you use your freedom this way, you will not inherit God’s kingdom.
22-23But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.
23-24Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good—crucified.
25-26Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.

While on vacation in the Smokies, I picked up a book from one of the many book outlet stores there called God is Closer Than You Think, by John Ortberg. This book hit a key note on what was going on in my life. I felt distant from God, but this book helped bring me closer and realize opportunities I could take advantage to help me grow. I HIGHLY reccommend this book!
Now this may sound corny, but you’d be surprised how well it has worked. ACtually when I was leaving my room, I didn’t want to turn the light switch down(off), so i went around to each room and turned of each light.

So, Jesus chose us. And we choose to accept his invitation. Break down the beginning part. He was speaking to his disciples. Now his disciples were fishermen, following their fathers occupation, apprenticing. Jesus came to them and chose them to drop their nets and follow him. They were apprenticing their fathers because they were not good enough to further their theological study and become a Rabbi. JESUS REACHES OUT TO THE ‘NOT-GOOD-ENOUGHS’. He chooses us, the sinners, the failures, the poor, and the shunned. (This is talked about in the 008 Nooma, by Rob Bell, “Dust”. I’m working on an image. =]

Ecclesiastes 4:8-12

 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down,
his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up!
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

This is not necessarily talking about relationships.

I have an update for High School relationships here when I get around to writing it. This passage is about opening up to one another and finding support and accountability from our peers. It makes life so much easier when we have that person we can tell anything to!

While sitting in Genesis, my churches youth group, today, I was disappointed in the new material our new leaders are starting to go over. The material consists of booklets for each student and basically the books give you a verse, you look it up, summarize it’s “claim”, and then tell how this will have a neg./pos. effect when you read the Bible. I thought the way the book covers the material is rather shallow. It does NOT require the student to “Go Deep” into the word, think about how the verse applies to your life, or how this passage will help the student grow in Christ. (more…)

‘When you are full,
but when you are hungry,
even something bitter is sweet.’ - Proverbs 27:7 NCV

When we are “high on life”, our heads are too high to even accept honey as sweet. But once we become low and desperate, something such as the bitter black coffee(a bad example) seems sweet to the soul.

Are we supposed to be “full” or are we supposed to find satisfaction in something not so sweet, but bitter? What happens when the sweet isn’t sweet anymore, it doesn’t meet the standards of “sweetness”? Which is supposed to taste good, sweet or the bitter that seems sweet?

During Raft Trip, we studied “The Exodus”, the period in which Moses came to set the Israelites free from the Pharoh’s control. We also watched the film, The Prince of Egypt, on our way there and back. One thing that stuck out to me was that Moses’ brother, Ramsees, gives a slave to Moses as a gift. The slave eventually escapes after Moses basically lets her get by the gaurds. Later in the movie when Moses runs from the Pharoh and ends up in Midian, he eventually marries Zipporah, the daughter of Reuel. What is ironic about this is that she is actually (or so depict in the movie as) the slave-girl Ramsees gives originally to Moses. (more…)

	Letting Go seems to be something that is hard for humans. I still have trouble with it and I always am trying to just forget about my fears and let it be in Gods hands. I’ve done things that make me feel more comfortable each time God needs me to do something.

	My walk with god has been anything but a cake walk. At times sure I have doubted my beliefs. I probably had all the reasons to too. Yet something inside of me still says to hang on a bit longer.

3 words… 3 words. GOD IS HERE. The first time I say this I focus in on the words. By the second time, I have goosebumps, every time. Its amazing how people say, ‘I was hurting and then God showed up.‘ But God is always present and we were the ones who showed up. After reading Rob Bell’s book, Velvet Elvis, I am constantly telling myself this short phrase remembering God is watching. We are sometimes put into a situation where we feel alone and lost. We forget that God has already been there and is watching and waiting for us to realize he can help us get out of the mess.
