Here is the main problem with Jordan's statement: In Christianity, one does not attain salvation, it is a free gift of grace given through faith. No one can earn salvation; it is received. However, that does not mean accepting Christ is like pushing an easy button that makes life's hardships disappear, cures all our ills, removes all our problems or frees us from the responsibilities of living as a disciple. I too understand what the creators of this shirt were trying to convey, but have struggled with it, because Jesus never promised that a commitment to him and a life of discipleship would be easy. Grace brings hope and assurance, not comfort and ease. Jesus said "Deny yourself, take up your cross and follow me." That isn't easy.

As mentioned previously. There are different ways of looking at this t-shirt. What you said is true, but that does not mean life's going to be easy.

Actually, it is that easy. Compare the Christian religions to that of Jewish or Muslim. Christians barely have to do anything at all to attain salvation.

Oh, I've been baptized. Guess I'm free of all my sins! Free ticket to Heaven, whoo hoo!

Yes, it is easy. For all the Christians who can't accept that...you're just in denial.

God IS all powerful and can do anything, but the concept of this piece was not directed about "blind patriotism," as you say. In the verse from 1 Kings, Elijiah heard God only because he wanted to hear him. God loves his creations and asks for them to reach toward him. He protects the U.S. Marines because those that pray and reach out are protected, but this professor would not acknowledge God, and would not reach out to him, so God's creation stood up for God, and gave the professor what he simply had asked for.

Matthew 18:2-4
2He called a little child and had him stand among them. 3And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven (Biblegateway.com).

Wow, I thought god was all powerful and could do anything therefore he could protect America’s Marines and strike the professor off the platform. That’s a break in logic that makes this story even more stupid. This made-up story is asinine, not to mention filled with propaganda and blind patriotism.

Entirely true. Everybody really does have somebody at the same spiritual stage of growth with them, not to mention God is there too. Its a matter of weathor or not a person has opened their eyes to this. I'm thankful for the Koinonia I share with some descrete people, siblings in christ that poke me and say, "Think about it!" I offer my blade to others, but few take me up on the offer. I have not given my blade but to those few, and they have cherished it and I have cherished their presence as well. I only wish others had this bond and could let it grow as Orli wishes to - including myself, for I hate feeling vulnerable. Thank you for posting this Orli!

"Togg.le-u.com" is currently taking up the space where I plan to put a link to this great, Schmidt forum that I found. I'd just like to know so I can replace it if your done with this site.

Great passage. Gets you thinking about how many times do we let God pass by with out even noticing him. Psalm 37:7a:
<blockquote>Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him</blockquote> How often do we rush thorugh life, at a racing pace and not even see some of the amazing things God has done?

I would agree with your example, had a school and a teacher's reputation not been at stake. That was secularism. The teacher just did as she should have and it's really crappy of people to say anything else, because she would've been risking the school and her job.

I liked those comments... if you can bring them back I'll give you a treat... *shake, shake*

Thank you alwaysboredx0, for the clarification.

Remember the 7 year old who gave out the Christmas Story of Jesus cards with the Candy Canes and the teacher who ripped them up? (Sounds like they didn't want her to discuss her religion with others)

Just an example, but I understand your point that the world is not telling us to "keep locked up," but more of disguising/hiding the bad.

I guess the point I was trying to make was that the commonly stereotyped "man" is not sensitive or open about his "feelings."

And yes I deleted two of my comments and two of JSOnri's comments due to it was just back and forth pointless arguing, unnecessary in trying to prove our point of views.

I agree in that sense that world does tell us to block out all the bad. I know the the only way I can get by everyday is to block out that Hillary is likely to be the next president. But seriously, I agree with Alwaysbored's thinking on it, but I don't think the world exactly tells us to not discuss our religion.

And did you delete one of my comments? I think it's gone missing...

I can agree that God wants us to be open, but the world isn't exactly telling us to "shut everyone else out". Socialization is a huge priority in modern schools. "Social health" has become 1/3 of the health curriculum and has been given the status as a "type of health". All the while, counselors are being trained to look for student with antisocial characateristics. Rejection to socialization is considered nothing less than a psychiatric disorder and an unhealthful mental state. I can hardly agree that the world tells us to "keep locked up".

<p>I've realized lately that this fellowship is basically showing the World how vulnerable you are willing to make yourself. The "World" tells us to keep locked up and shut everyone else out. But GOD wants us to be vulnerable and open up to other people, even if that means awakening awkward situations with our peers. </p>
from <a href="http://www.bj.org/parashat_hashavua/parashat_ekev_5765.php" rel="nofollow">PARASHAT HASHAVU'A</a> an Article by Sian Gibby about Jewish Prayer says:
<blockquote>The harshness of life's realities will make you want to run away, to cloak yourself somehow, but you mustn't, we are told. Strip down and open up. This is a very difficult message to hear and to obey. To be ordered to stay vulnerable makes no sense in this hostile world. We want to ball ourselves up in the fetal position ... or in a fist</blockquote>

I think that fellowship is not necessarily going to church every Sunday, but more just associating with other Christians.

<p>I've always wondered, what accounts as fellowship? What does this actually mean? What's your (everyone reading this) opnion about this and the view of "the church"? I realize readers are from a variety of different churches and traditions.</p>

Well, "Church" is literally the people. So any fellowship and praising of God with other believers is/can be considered Church.

I'm definitely NOT saying you shouldn't go to church! I'm saying that we should praise God and we should be in the prescense of other believers (this by small groups, bible studies, talking with other believers about their faith or hanging out or whatever else you can think of), and church is one way that is accomplished.

So by what your saying, someone is not in the wrong if they praise God, have fellowship with other believers, but not necessarily at church? Or must they go to church to have that fellowship, because as long as someone isn't an antisocial recluse, they pretty much have fellowship.

Bascially the down to earth reasons we should go to church are these:
We were made to praise God.
We need the fellowship of other believers.

So church is basically anything that has both these two things.

Ah finally got the Coding done. I had to check on it every now and then, but I finally had time to right it out so that everybody can share it. Inverting HTML isn't as bad after finally finding a helpful page XD Send me webpages of images for images if you want me to make a banner of it like the one posted here. I'll be glad to code and invert the code for you to share with friends. You could do it yourself, but if you need me to help go ahead and ask for it. I warn you it could take a bit, but I'll try to get it for you.

A verse that applies to this post:
<p>Romans 3:23-24<br />
<blockquote> There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. </blockquote>

AWESOME! Yosef - profoundly said!
<blockquote> Religion is personal, it can be traditional, but if its not personal then it truly is just hollow motions. </blockquote>
If only people truly understood the wonders of Christianity, I think there would be more motivation to going to church, rather than putting on your "sunday best" and having you mom drag you to the car...

Before I forget my previous idea, I wanted to reply to the original idea of this topic.

It is truly great when all you have to say is, "God, please help!" And if he truly believes you need the help, it is there.

Reversely(In the position of the person helping):God said, "Treat your neighbor as yourself." If we follow this, that is what could make this world a place of miracles. Following this, we could be given the chance to be the person pulling somebody out of the mud. Helping one another, finding what we truly need to make it from this life into the next, and all the while helping those still to come... Now that would be great.

Have to agree. There were alot of people in my comfirmation class who were there simply because their parents, "forced them to." Then the competitive ones try to spin it in their own style (making it a competition), and before they realize it, they've lost the point of all of it. It aggrivated me alot, and I tried to teach them stuff, but they just didn't care. So after a while I stopped caring, and waited for them to figure out the question that you have stated here - WHY?

I completely agree!!!! Anyone can go around saying that are a Christian and doing the little ceremonies that go along with it. That doesn't even scratch the surface of true Christianity in reality though.

O! I see, yes that's pretty interesting... Not really where I wanted to take this post, but I guess it will work. =/
Religion is so stereotyped, It kind of bugs me about the stereotypes it sets.
If only people knew that it is not about rules and regulations, going in and out of church every sunday, and repeating monotonous prayers before every meal! ITS SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT! Most religion/Christianity is man's law and tradition. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, but people tend to forget to ask the question WHY? Why do we do this? or better put, WHY does God want me to do this? Are your religious traditions and rules Praising God? (NOT meant to offend anyones thoughts/beliefs, just simply to get you thinking.)
Man, this blog is basically a conversation between two people...

Oh, I didn't mean it like that! I just meant that there was some divine intervention there where we were both thinking of the same thing around relatively time. I love the picture by the way!

In Matthew 22:37-38, Jesus says,
<blockquote> "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment." </blockquote>
Now this commandment is not only mentioned once in the New Testament. It is mentioned in each of the four gospels! So loving God is the most important value in our lives! Not only half the time, half of our conscience, but all of it! ALL of mind, ALL of our sould, ALL of our heart! So if this is the GREATEST commandment Jesus tell us to follow, why is it also the hardest to follow? To resist the devil, temptation, is going to be our greatest challenge in our lives, but the most rewarding!

OH!!!! Ha, ha... that would explain it!

She was expressing religious feelings, true, but she was also doing it at a public school. As long as it didn't look like she was trying to force someone into conversion, I think it'd be OK. If the girl had been trying to impose her religious views (which of course she wasn't, she was 7), she'd be liable for breaking the First Amendment, not the teacher.

The teacher could argue that she (the teacher) was trying to protect the views of the students, not hurt those of the girl handing out the candy canes.

Hmm... that's interesting...

You make a good point. But I forgot to mention she was 7. A seven year old handed them out. At this age, I doubt the seven year old REALLY knew what she was doing and the risk she was taking. Then again she is expressing her religious feelings. Which by telling the kids to rip them up, the teacher violated the first ammendment.

I completely agree! Teens choose such fake heroes to have in the modern world! It is somewhat unfair to those teen celebrities who have to try to live absolutely perfect lives, but they are making a LOT more than a couple mistakes and it's totally pathetic how they are wasting all that responsibility! =(

I think secularism is definitely a good idea though. Imagine if someone who received one of those candy canes wasn't a Christian. The school would've been risking being sued for big bucks. And if it was found out that that teacher didn't put her foot down, she would've been liable for a lot of the damage. I think she was most certainly doing the right thing, and was just trying to protect the students and the school, not to mention herself.

Thanks!
Now one is to think that since He chooses us, where's the "free will" fall into play. Think of it like a gift:
God gives us this present, the wrapping paper and all. Its sitting there, under the tree with the tag, To: (Your name here) From: God. We can open it! Its amazing what's inside. The life changes that will happen and the promises that lie inside of this gift.
OR
We can leave it there. We can return it to "the store." Imagine running down the stairs seeing a present and saying, "Oh! return that to the store, I don't want to even look inside of it. It looks like a bad present!" YEAH RIGHT! I'd want to open that sucker up and see what lies inside!

So I encourage you all to open the gift under tree and see what God has in mind for you!

Wow I totally know what you're going through.. sometimes you're soo stressed & you're just like "holy crap, how am I going to get through this?" It's hard but you have to remember to leave it all up to God.. I'm like always stressed about something haha so I always have to remind myself that God will take care of it, and there's no huge need to worry (of course, I'm not saying don't care about anything because that won't get you anywhere either! haha) but yeah, I definitely know where you're coming from.

There's a difference between Conviction and Guilt. Guilt is when even though you have asked forgiveness for your sins you feel unforgiven, this is issue with one's self. Conviction is when you've asked forgiveness and you put the sin behind you, moving on. That's what God does. He forgives you and moves on.
That'd be cool and thanks man. its glad to hear from you again!

<blockquote>
Psalm 69:1-5
Save me, O God,
       for the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in the miry depths,
       where there is no foothold.
       I have come into the deep waters;
       the floods engulf me.
I am worn out calling for help;
       my throat is parched.
       My eyes fail,
       looking for my God.
Those who hate me without reason
       outnumber the hairs of my head;
       many are my enemies without cause,
       those who seek to destroy me.
       I am forced to restore
       what I did not steal.
You know my folly, O God;
       my guilt is not hidden from you.
</blockquote>
Connection: Sinking
We sink, not in water, but in sin. We are about to drown in the amount of sin around us for we have gotten of the path and forgotten about God.
Folly - Rob Bell describes this,in his Nooma, 007 Luggage, as how a dog returns to his vomit, we return to our sins. (I think he said something like that, I am not certain.) So in this passage, God knows the stuff in our lives that we keep returning to, it is not hidden.

<blockquote>
Matthew 14:27-33
But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."
"Come," he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"
And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."
</blockquote>
Peter didn't doubt Jesus, he doubted himself. Too many times do we believe in God, but not in the capabilities God has given us.

Oh, excuse my poor eyesight, because I must've carelessly missed the word "Christian" in the title, but now it's not loading on my computer, so I can't check it.

So you don't have any plans for it besides to "strengthen a current Christian that had never thought of relationships like this"? I mean, it certainly looks like it's been useful in the past.

This is fascinating! I definitely think it's a great chart for Christians, however I would replace the word "God" with something more tolerant for use with other people. It's very intolerant otherwise, and it's not as if people of other religions have never experienced love (not that you said that, you just didn't specify it was meant for Christians (if you even meant to do that, not to assume anything!)). I've got plenty examples of that stockpiled up, but I don't want to bore you with those unless you seriously want to see them in which case I'd be perfectly happy to post them! =)

I mean, this is great for people in America (generally Christian country), but I'm not sure if this would be the smartest or most tolerant thing to advocate to the rest world. I couldn't see you trying to convert someone using it, because they (probably (no absolutes!)) have felt love before. I've haven't heard of any religions based on hate in a long time!
