A Worthy Life:
1 Colosians 1:10-14 (NIV)
10And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
The passage straight forward states out the necessities of how to live a worthy life.
- First we must bear fruit in every good work. All of the actions we take, decisions we make, and relationships we establish should bear God’s fruit. It should reflect the parables, teachings and image of Christ. Our lives should be should praise God.
- Then we need to continue to grow. Growing in knowledge of God means that we should be growing not only through his word but also in conversation with Him and through others. Our lives should reflect the knowledge we have of Christ.
- Endurance and Patience. - Both are key elements in our relationship with not only God, but all relationships. Too often do we become impatient and want a decision NOW, but that’s not the plan God has for us. Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
We must let God be in control of our lives, through thick and thin, if we let him have control we will prosper.
- Constantly in our day, we should praise or talk to God for the things he’s done in our lives. This is something I do not do too often, but continual conversation with God is my goal. Talking to him reguarly helps me realize the areas of my life where I need to work most.
- By believing in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer, He’s allow us to have part of His Kingdom, up in the heavens.
- God pulled us out of the dark pit we were travelling down. He brought us out of Satan’s cluthes and brought us into the eternal light. By doing this, He sent His Son, the Son of Man, to die the ultimate death. He was crucified, which was one of the worst capitol punishments around. The suffering He went through paid the price for all of the sins of the world. The sin you might commit 5 years from now, yes, Jesus already paid for it 2000 years ago.
These are the key elements to living a life that shines in the grace of God. So I challenge you, today, to make that effort to complete these because the reward is undescribable. The day we die and we arrive at Heaven’s gate will be a joyous day. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins, he made the effort, so why don’t you?
